Ft. Smith livestock sales

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 541 head Nov. 19, compared to 410 head last week and 392 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls $5 to $9 higher. Feeder steers and heifers under 400 pounds were $1 to $3 higher, over 400 pounds were $1 to $7 lower. The supply included 253 feeder calves, 190 feeder yearlings, 33 replacement cows, 56 slaughter cows, 9 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 67.00 to 71.50; high dressing, 72.00 to 76.00; low dressing, 62.00 to 66.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 71.00 to 75.50; high dressing, 76.00 to 80.50; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 69.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 64.00 to 68.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 51.00 to 55.50; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 50.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 88.50 to 92.00; high dressing, 95.00 to 99.50; low dressing, 86.00.
