Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,531 head Nov. 29, compared to 2,583 head two weeks ago and 3,035 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers were $3 to $5 higher in all weight categories, with instances of 350- to 550-pound value-added steers and heifers at $6 to $8 higher. Trade was active. Demand was very good on receipts of long-weaned thin or gaunt kinds and still fairly good on recently weaned receipts. Area grass pastures remained dry and dusty; wheat pastures were stressed in unseasonably warm temperatures. Body condition on receipts ranged from thin or gaunt to moderate flesh. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 higher. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 950-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 18%, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 81%. The feeder supply included 54% steers and 46% heifers, with nearly 42% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 74.00 to 80.00; low dressing, 68.00 to 70.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 70.00 to 76.0; low dressing, 67.25 to 69.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 2100 lbs., 86.00 to 95.00; low dressing, 1700 to 1800 lbs., 82.00 to 83.00.
