Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 1,218 head Nov. 28, compared to 1,715 head two weeks ago and 2,325 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to the last test two weeks ago, steer and heifer calves were $3 to $5 higher. Feeder cattle were firm in a very limited test. Demand was very good for calves and limited offerings of feeders. Overall quality was average to attractive. Fills were average to full. Most calves were in average flesh. Weather remained very dry but light numbers of calves supported prices. Surface water continued to decline and stock water was an increasing concern for many producers. Heifers made up about 49% of supply and cattle over 600 pounds made up 27% of the offering. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. No recent test on slaughter bulls but a higher undertone was noted. A total of 334 cows and bulls sold with 56% going to packers.
