Colorado Ag Classic planned for Dec. 12 to 13
The eighth annual Colorado Ag Classic will be held Dec. 12 to 13 at the Embassy Suites in Loveland, Colo. The Colorado Ag Classic is the joint convention of the Colorado Association of Wheat Growers, the Colorado Corn Growers Association, Colorado Sunflower Administrative Committee and the Colorado Seed Growers Association.
The convention will begin on the afternoon of Dec. 12, with "Getting Capital at the Capitol--giving voice to the agriculture industry with our legislators."
New this year is a pesticide applicator recertification training session Dec. 12. Three credits will be available through the three half-hour sessions beginning at 4:30 p.m. The credits will apply for both private and commercial applicator licenses.
Also new this year is a Casino Night, featuring food, fun, game, drinks and prizes. The Casino night will be followed by an auction to benefit CAWG and CCGA's state and national legislative efforts.
Early morning sessions on Dec. 13 include a workers' compensation safety seminar and Grain Marketing with Dan Maltby, followed by Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture John Salazar kicking off the General Session.
The keynote speaker is Jim Wiesemeyer, senior vice president of Informa Economics. Wiesemeyer's topic will be: Issue Update: Economy, Farm Bill, Energy, Trade. From his office in Washington, D.C., Wiesemeyer contributes daily to Informa Economics' Morning Comments report, providing the latest information on agricultural policy and trade developments.
Additional sessions include: "When Ag Gets Attacked - From GMO activists vs. sugar beets to the Colorado cantaloupe listeria crisis, how to make sure the farm message is heard"; "Dealing with Drought Session 1 - What's up with the weather? with Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe"; "Dealing with Drought Session 2 - New research and tools"; and "Panel Q & A - Discussion with panelists from both drought sessions."
A trade show will also take place during the Colorado Ag Classic. Representatives from agricultural businesses from around the state will be present to answer questions on their products.
