Joint convention brings Wyoming natural resource industry together

Wyoming

Hundreds of ranchers and other natural resource users will come together during the Wyoming Natural Resources Rendezvous, Dec. 10 to 13 in Casper at the Parkway Plaza.

This joint convention between the Wyoming Stock Growers, Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts and the Society for Range Management-Wyoming Section will feature top-notch speakers, the latest industry updates and actions addressing current industry issues.

"Our joint convention only takes place every five years, making it a unique opportunity to explore the broader view of the agriculture industry," WSGA Executive Vice President Jim Magagna said. "WSGA, WACD and SRM are excited to come together to discuss the issues that affect us all, and to strategize for the future."

"We appreciate the opportunity to join with range professionals and managers, landowners, and agriculture producers of the state to discuss the challenges we collectively face in managing the resources on our working lands," WACD Executive Director Bobbie Frank said.

The convention follows the WSGA "Making A Plan: Planning for a Profitable Estate Transition" workshop on Dec. 10. The "MAP" workshop is open to the public and more information is available at www.wysga.org. The regular convention agenda begins on Dec. 11.

Convention highlights include:

--The Progressive Natural Resource Manager Forum featuring five tracks of concurrent sessions with topics including: climate and drought impacts, livestock management tools, rangeland health and much more; detailed listing of topics is available at www.wysga.org/events.htm, and the forum is hosted with UW Cooperative Extension;

--Keynote Speaker Bruce Vincent, a third-generation logger from Montana who has spent the past 20 years speaking and advocated on behalf of natural resource issues;

--Addresses from Wyoming Governor Matt Mead, Wyoming State Treasurer Mark Gordon and NRCS Regional Conservationist for the West Aster Boozer;

--Updates from the Wyoming Congressional Delegation and key members of the Wyoming Legislature;

--WSGA, WACD and SRM committee meetings; and

--Live Auction Fundraiser at 7 p.m., Dec. 13.
