North Arkansas livestock auction report


The North Arkansas Livestock Auction, Green Forest, Ark., reported receipts of 1,130 head Dec. 5, compared to 1,471 head last week and 1,873 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls nearly steady on a light test. Feeder steers mixed, under 550 pounds were $2 higher to $6 lower, generally steady, over 550 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Feeder heifers under 600 pounds were mostly steady to $3 lower, over 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Feeder bulls mixed from $3 lower to $7 higher, mostly steady to $7 higher. The supply included about 725 feeder calves, 215 feeder yearlings, 50 replacement cows, 130 slaughter cows, and 11 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included 43% steers, 45% heifers, and 12% bulls, with nearly 23% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 68.00 to 76.00; high dressing, 77.00 to 81.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 69.00 to 76.00; high dressing, 76.50 to 81.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 67.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 62.00 to 70.00; high dressing, 73.00 to 76.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 60.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 60.00 to 67.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 52.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 83.00 to 89.00; low dressing, 72.00 to 78.50.
