Amarillo livestock auction summary


The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,522 head Dec. 3, compared to 993 head last week and 342 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, yearling heifers and heifer calves sold weak to $4 lower. There were not enough comparable sales of yearling steers or steer calves for an adequate market trend. Trade activity and demand were moderate to good. Dry conditions continue across the area with no rain in the forecast. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm compared to previous sales light test. Slaughter bulls were not well tested in the last sale. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 6%, 3% replacements and 91% feeders. The feeder supply included 23% steers and bulls, 77% heifers, with nearly 40% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 356 lbs., 190.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 178.50 to 188.00, few 490 lbs., fleshy 160.00; 525 to 575 lbs., 159.00 to 161.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves, 140.00 to 145.50; 700 to 725 lb. calves, 142.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 485 lbs., 155.00; few 592 lbs., 145.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves, 135.00 to 137.00; lot 763 lbs., fleshy 130.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 950 lbs., 120.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 356 lbs., 176.00; few 597 lbs., 137.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 668 lbs., 122.00; few 871 lbs., 118.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 367 lbs., 161.00; 400 to 425 lbs., 149.00 to 154.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 141.00 to 146.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 135.50 to 143.50, few 576 lbs., fleshy 130.00; 600 to 650 lb. calves, 131.00 to 133.50; few 761 lbs., fleshy 124.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 383 lbs., 140.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 132.00 to 135.75, several loads Mexican Origin 134.00 to 134.50; few 679 lbs., fleshy 124.00; load 742 lbs., 135.75, 700 to 800 lbs., fleshy 124.00 to 124.25. Medium and large frame 2, lot 701 lbs., 126.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, half load 544 lbs., Mexican Origin 128.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 116.00 to 119.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1600 lbs., 73.00 to 76.50; low dressing, 62.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 75.00 to 79.00; high dressing, 80.00 to 80.75; low dressing, 72.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 80.00; low dressing, 69.50 to 70.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 64.50; low dressing, 62.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1460 to 1715 lbs., 85.50 to 87.75; high dressing, individual 2285 lbs., 94.50; low dressing, 1490 to 2105 lbs., 77.50 to 83.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 800 to 1200 lbs., 1 to 9 months bred, 925.00 to 1275.00; aged to short and solid mouth, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 800.00 to 985.00/head.
