Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 595 head Dec. 3, compared to 675 head last week and 700 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were $5 to $6 higher. Feeder steers under 400 pounds were steady to $5 higher, over 400 pounds were steady to $3 lower. Feeder heifers under 500 pounds were steady to $7 higher, over 500 pounds were steady to $4 lower. The supply included 246 feeder calves, 170 feeder yearlings, 63 replacement cows, 109 slaughter cows, 10 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 50% English breed and English crosses, 25% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 25% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply was about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 69.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 78.50; low dressing, 64.00 to 68.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 73.00 to 77.50; high dressing, 78.00 to 82.00; low dressing, 68.00 to 72.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 71.00 to 75.50; high dressing, 76.00 to 80.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 89.00 to 94.00; high dressing, 99.00 to 101.50; low dressing, 75.00 to 85.00.
