Texas Direct feeder cattle summary

The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, reported receipts of 26,700 head, Nov. 30, compared to 17,500 head last week and 18,100 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, current feeder steers and heifers were firm to $3 higher on a large post to holiday week trade. There was a very good test of current cattle both Delivered and FOB. Dry parched wheat pastures are forcing early consideration and the possible premature movement of lighter weight weaned calves that were destined for wheat. Area auctions are beginning to see increased receipts of thin weaned calves due to the lack of available wheat pastures. Only approximately 86% of this week's cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Approximately 59% of this week's weighted average receipts were steers and 41% heifers. Prices based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 4 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Delivered prices include freight, commissions and other expenses. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.
