2012 Alltech Symposium to re-imagine beef

Alltech's 28th Annual International Symposium May 20 to 23 in Lexington, Ky., will offer beef-focused sessions that cover a broad spectrum, from programmed nutrition to marketing, designed to stimulate discussion and generate new ideas for the future.

"Our international Symposium is about bringing people together from all different areas of the supply chain to examine and discuss our industry," said Jorge Gotuzzo, beef marketing manager at Alltech. "Both in the plenary sessions and the beef-focused sessions, we are going beyond providing technical information. We want to explore innovative ways of doing things and provide informative sessions for everyone, whether their focus is on production, nutrition or marketing to the consumer."

Beef-focused session topics will include:

--Can We Make Better Beef: Creating a program for branded, verified beef that consumers can trust;

--The Big Beef Challenge: Pathogen intervention strategies;

--A Smarter Way to Market Your Beef;

--Cow Calf Profitability: Matching breed to feed to optimize cost effectiveness;

--Where's the Beef: A view of the future from one of the world's most competitive markets, Brazil;

--Using Programmed Nutrition to Prepare the Perfect Steak

The 2012 Symposium will be the forum for more than 100 presentations by industry experts, including experts from Domino's Pizza, Jack in the Box, Wendy's, Nestle, Murphy-Brown, Future Farmers of America, PetSmart and the Harvard School of Business. Featured presenters at the beef sessions include John Butler of Beef Marketing Group, USA; Mindy Brashears, Texas Tech University, USA; Miguel Cavalcanti of BeefPoint, Brazil; Joseph Kerns of International Agribusiness Group, USA; and Stuart Roberts of Anglo Beef Processors, U.K.

Looking to 2050's burgeoning population, Alltech's 2012 Symposium will focus on ideas for better use of resources, improved business practices and natural nutritional solutions. New in 2012, breakout sessions will include legal, marketing, information technology and designer food in addition to the popular aquaculture, beef, dairy, equine, poultry, pig, pet and regulatory-focused offerings.
