Recycling Across Oklahoma seminar set for Oct. 13
Individuals interested in learning about and promoting recycling should register now to attend the Oct. 13 Recycling Across Oklahoma: Urban, Suburban and Rural seminar.
The seminar and expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center on Oklahoma State University's Stillwater campus, located near the corner of Hester and University streets. Optional evening programs also will be offered.
"Participants can pick up practical operational tips and explore real-world solutions initiated by some of the state and region's most successful recycling efforts," said Ilda Hershey, OSU Cooperative Extension assistant specialist for solid waste management programs.
Seminar topics are designed for local government officials, recycling professionals, community and business leaders, educators, students and Oklahoma residents interested in the business of recycling or expanding and enhancing local programs.
Cost is $45 if registering no later than Oct. 6 and $60 thereafter. Current Oklahoma Recycling Association (OKRA) members may register at the discount rate of $35 through Oct. 6 and $50 thereafter. Students can attend for $15. Exhibitor rates are $150 for business or government and $50 for non-profit organizations.

"Our keynote speaker will be Walmart's Vonda Lockwood, director of store innovations and sustainability, who will talk about Walmart's Zero Waste Program," Hershey said.
Seminar sessions will focus on future trends in recycling, developing a Master Recyclers Program, rural recycling collections, e-waste recycling, tire collections, household hazardous waste events, backyard- and municipal-scale composting, labeling changes for plastic containers, Oklahoma landfill diversion laws and much more.
Sessions will be led by industry and government experts.
The seminar is hosted by OKRA and sponsored by Greenstar Recycling, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority, Choctaw Nation, OGE Energy Corp., Indian Nations Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America, Oklahoma Sierra Club and OSU's Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Continuing education credits will be offered to SWANA members who attend the seminar.
