Farm Survey

Sunflower Showcase a success

National Sunflower Association High Plains Committee, the Delphos Cooperative Association and the Central Kansas Extension District teamed up to host the 2011 Sunflower Showcase on Aug. 30 at the Meadowlark Academy in Delphos, Kan. Over 100 producers from the High Plains region attended this event.

Topics of the day mainly focused on the economics of double-crop sunflowers versus double-crop soybeans.

Attendees gained knowledge from fellow producers, Kansas State Research & Extension and Delphos Coop about production strategies for both primary and double crop sunflowers in the areas of fertility, pest control, weed management, and general agronomics. Afternoon speakers followed with presentations on farm policy, marketing, and updates from the National Sunflower Association and Kansas Sunflower Commission.
