Sunflower Elite goat show held in Great Bend
LRP Show goats win big at the Sunflower elite Goat Showback in Great Bend Kansas. On Oct. 15, youth show goat exhibitors from Kansas and Oklahoma made their way to Great Bend, Kan., to try their talents at the Sunflower Elite Jackpot Show hosted by the Barton County Fair Grounds. The Sunflower Elite is a group of breeders in Kansas who desire to promote the youth show goat industry. The Sunflower Elite comprises A5 Boers (Great Bend), Conine Livestock (Scott City), Dreamland Farms (Perry), Goodno Boer Goats (Kiowa) and LRP-Lindsey Pease Show Goats (Chetopa). Youth exhibitors that purchased a meat goat directly from these producers were invited to participate in the Sunflower Elite Jackpot Show which featured a $7,700 payout. In addition to the added money, Maynard buckles were awarded to winners in each division of the market show, the grand and reserve grand champions of the wether and doe shows, and each division of showmanship. Results were as follows: --Supreme doe, Stephanie Stewart, Jones, Okla., bred by LRP Show Goats-Lindsey Pease, sponsored by Kanza Coop/Iuka Feeds; --Reserve supreme doe, Erin Falkenstien, Oswego, Kan., bred by LRP Show Goats, Lindsey Pease sponsored by Paul and Yvonne Harbaugh, --Grand champion wether, Mattie Shafer, Ellinwood, Kan., bred by Goodno Boer Goats, Justin Goodno, sponsored by Honor Show Chow; and --Reserve grand champion wether, Christian Stewart, Jones, Okla., bred by LRP Show Goats-Lindsey Pease, sponsored by Williams Ag.
