McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Livestock Auction, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 925 head May 24, compared to 930 head last week and 2,175 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steers were mostly $8 to $10 lower, steer calves under 400 pounds instances were $10 to $15 lower. Heifers were mostly $7 to $8 lower. The supply included 17% over 600 pounds, 51% heifers. Quality of cattle was average. Demand was light. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $5 higher. A total of 160 cows and bulls sold with 66% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 21 head, 1400 to 2200 lbs., 93.00 to 97.00; high dressing, 99.00 to 103.00; low dressing, 86.00 to 92.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 875 to 1000 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 775.00 to 870.00; 5 to 6 years old, 875 to 1100 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, average quality 890.00 to 910.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1000 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, average quality 900.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 years old, 975 to 1100 lbs., with 225- to 250-lb. calves, average quality 1100.00 to 1200.00; 7 to 8 years old, 900 lbs., with 85-lb. calves, average quality 870.00..
