Goldthwaite sheep sales report

The Mills County Commission Co., Goldthwaite, Texas, May 20, reported receipts of 2,576 head, compared to 1,792 head last week and 2,573 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder lambs were $3 to $5 higher. Light slaughter lambs were $5 to $10 higher, heavy weights were not tested. Stocker and feeder goats were steady on a light test. Slaughter kids were $5 to $10 higher. Demand was very good. The sheep supply included 83% slaughter lambs, 750 head, 1% slaughter ewes, the balance was replacement sheep. In the slaughter lamb supply 1% weighted over 100 pounds and 100% entered the non-traditional marketing channel. The goat supply included 80% slaughter goats, the balance was replacement stock. All sheep and goats sold per hundred weight (CWT) unless otherwise specified.

Stock and feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, haired 55 to 85 lbs., 178.00 to 190.00; Wooled 66 to 80 lbs., 200.00 to 220.00. Dorper ewes, 80 to 120 lbs., 80.00 to 120.00. Dorper bucks, 100 to 140 lbs., 130.00 to 168.00. Barbados ewes, 60 to 80 lbs., 72.00 to 90.00; Pairs, few 50.00/head.

Slaughter lambs: Non-traditional market, Good, few Choice 1 to 2, 40 to 85 lbs., 177.00 to 192.00, few 202.00 to 206.00. Good, 40 to 85 lbs., 168.00 to 177.00. Slaughter ewes, Utility 1 to 3, Medium flesh, 100 to 140 lbs., 80.00 to 100.00. Cull, thin-very thin 50.00 to 60.00. Slaughter bucks, 100 to 195 lbs., 60.00 to 90.00. Barbados, lambs, 40 to 70 lbs., 130.00 to 156.00; ewes 60 to 75 lbs., 56.00 to 100.00; bucks 90 to 120 lbs., 88.00 to 108.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 40 to 60 lbs., 194.00 to 228.00, few to 232.00, 60 to 80 lbs., 198.00 to 224.00. Selection 2, 40 to 60 lbs., 150.00 to 180.00, 60 to 80 lbs., 170.00 to 190.00.
