Pratt feeder cattle auction report

The Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 2,452 head May 19, compared to 4,508 head last week and 2,603 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 800 to 950 pounds in a very limited test were $2 to $4 lower. Heifers at 700 to 850 pounds were $3 to $5 lower. Steers at 800 pounds and under, also heifers 700 pounds and under were not enough of any weight class for an accurate market test, however a steady to firm undertone was noted. Slaughter cows were $2 to $4 lower. Slaughter bulls were weak to $2 lower. Receipts included 63% 600 pounds and over, 17% 600 pounds and under, 20% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 32% steers and 68% heifers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 14 head, 490 lbs., 150.00; 19 head, 684 lbs., 130.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 121.50 to 126.00 (123.17); 850 to 900 lbs., 123.00 to 123.25 (123.17). Bred cows: Medium and large frame 2 Short Solid to Broken Mouth 10 head, third trimester 1205 lbs., 785.00. Small and medium frame 2, Short Solid to Broken Mouth, 6 head, second trimester 1201 lbs., 810.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 73.00 to 77.50; high dressing, 78.25 to 78.50; low dressing, 62.00 to 71.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 72.00 to 76.00; low dressing, 71.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 69.50 to 74.50; high dressing, 77.00 to 79.00; low dressing, 62.50 to 69.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 93.50 to 95.50; low dressing, 86.00 to 91.50. Yield grade 3, low dressing, 80.50 to 83.50.
