Dalhart livestock auction report


The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 3,045 head May 19, compared to 1,783 head last week and 1,258 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, extreme drought conditions over a wide trade area had a negative effect on price levels. Feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were $5 to $10 lower, with heifers over 600 pounds at $1 to $3 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls were $3 to $5 lower. Trade and demand was weak to moderate. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250- to 925-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 12% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 1%, and feeders 86%. The feeder supply included 57% steers and 43% heifers, with nearly 42% of the run over 600 pounds.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1400 to 1900 lbs., 82.00 to 89.50; high dressing, 2235 lbs., 94.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, 825.00 to 910.00/head, young to middle-aged, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 820.00 to 885.00/head.
