Arkansas livestock auction summary

The summary of livestock auctions in Arkansas for the week ending May 20, showed estimated receipts of 8,850 head, compared to 9,853 head last week and 10,730 head last year, according to the USDA-Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold $4 lower. Slaughter bulls sold $2 to $3 lower. Feeders sold lower, calves sold $4 to $8 lower, yearlings were $1 to $3 lower. The supply was 5,220 stocker and feeder calves, 1,700 feeder yearlings, 600 replacement cows, 1,180 slaughter cows and 150 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 47% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 67.00 to 73.00; high dressing, 73.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 64.00 to 67.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 66.00 to 72.00; high dressing, 72.00 to 82.00; low dressing, 58.00 to 66.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 62.00 to 68.00; high dressing, 68.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 52.00 to 62.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 51.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 41.00 to 51.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 80.00 to 90.00; high dressing, 90.00 to 103.50; low dressing, 73.00 to 80.00.
