Manhattan Plant Materials Center's Field Day is June 7Kansas The reservation deadline has been extended to June 2 for the June 7 Field Day that will celebrate the Manhattan Plant Materials Center's 75th anniversary. Call the PMC at 785-539-8761 to make that reservation. The PMC is located at 3800 South 20th Street, south of Manhattan. "The PMC has been 'Delivering Plants with a Purpose' since 1936," said Eric B. Banks, state conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service. "I encourage people to attend so they can see how the PMC develops plants for a wide range of conservation purposes," said Richard Wynia, PMC manager. "Those who come to the field day will get to tour the grounds and attend breakout sessions on various plant-related subjects." The June 7 field day activities include: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.--Registration 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.--Welcome and PMC Overview 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.--PMC Tour 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.--Lunch catered by Ricky's Cafe $7.50 per person 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.--Breakout sessions including the following: Native Grasses; Tree/Shrub Issues; Soils; Forbs/Medicinal Uses; and Pollinators When making a reservation, please indicate that you want the catered lunch and/or need special accommodations. Outdoor attire is encouraged with hat and walking shoes and if desired sunscreen and a lawn chair.
