Wheat plot tours set for early JuneKansas K-State Research and Extension's River Valley District, in cooperation with area commercial agribusinesses, will host a series of wheat varieties plot tours on June 1, 7, 8, and 9. These educational plots allow wheat growers to see side-by-side comparisons with new and standard varieties at varied locations. Among the district locations, producers will see demonstrations on cold tolerance and disease and insect resistance. Kansas Wheat Alliance is providing some of the refreshments at the tours. Farmway Co-op is providing donuts for the Clay Center tour. This year's wheat plots tours will begin June 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ohlde Seed Farm, Linn (4 miles south of Linn on Osage Road). The tour will be followed by a meal sponsored by Ohlde Seed Farm. Ashley and Ryan Stewart's 4-H Wheat Plot tour will be held June 7 at 6:30 p.m. Location of the plot is 5 1/2 miles north of Washington on west side of Quivira Road. The meal following will be sponsored by Stewart Seed. On June 8, the day's tour will begin with K-State's North Central Kansas Experiment Field Tour (2 miles west of Belleville on Highway #36 on the north side ) at 7:30 a.m. Juice and rolls will be provided. The tour will then move on to the Christian Tipton 4-H Plot (3 1/2 miles south of Munden, or 4 1/2 miles north of Highway #36/Munden corner) at 10 a.m. Next will be the Republic County FFA Plot Tour (1 mile west and 1/4 mile north of southwest corner of Cuba) at noon. The day's touring will then end with the Polansky Seed Plot Tour at 6 p.m. The plot is located 2 miles east of Belleville on Highway #36 on the south side. The meal following will be sponsored by Polansky Seed. On June 9, the Jay Bohnenblust FFA Plot, Clay Center, will be held at 10 a.m. The plot is located 8 miles east of the Clay County Fairgrounds just north of the Broughton Road and Bayer Construction Quarry corner.
