Feds surveying Nebraska farmers, ranchers

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)--Thousands of Nebraska farmers and ranchers will be surveyed so federal officials can get a better picture of the crops being planted or stored and how many livestock are in the state inventory.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service will contact producers by mail or phone, and some might be contacted in person.

Dean Groskurth is director of the statistics service's Nebraska Field Office. He says the midyear data will become critical components of several national reports.

More information about the surveys is available at 800-582-6443.
