With the current commodity markets at high price levels, it's imperative that the soil for grain production be maintained. Soil Health and Wealth will be held June 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the Norton County Fairgrounds in Norton, Kan. Discussion will include: managing soil fertility using cover crops, crop rotations, transitioning to organic crop production, and marketing organically grown crops. Presentations will be given by: DeAnn Presley, K-State Research and Extension soil and water conservation specialist; Ed Reznicek, general manager for Kansas Organic Producers Association; and Joe Roberts, owner of Roberts Seed, Inc.
The afternoon will include farm tours of Doyle Brown, Jim Rowh and Bryce Stevens operations. Plan to bring your shovel as we'll be in the fields. Lunch will be catered by Pure Prairie Natural Foods and there is a $10 charge.
