Matt Deppe, Winterset, Iowa, has joined the Iowa Beef Industry Council as Director of Industry Relations. IBIC Chairman Dan Cook, a cattle farmer from New Providence, says, "We're excited to add Matt Deppe to the Beef Council staff to work in areas of Beef Quality Assurance, producer communications and industry relations with other organizations. He will also be responsible for our collection and compliance activities to be sure we are collecting the $1-per-head beef checkoff from all cattle sales."
"Matt grew up on a cattle farm in Jackson County and has both a bachelor's and master's degree in animal science. He brings experience in working with Iowa farmers and farm families from his years as county Extension education director for Madison County, and most recently as a regional Extension director for Iowa State University in southwest Iowa," says Nancy Degner, executive director for the IBIC. "We have seen increased interest in the BQA program from producers who want to improve their cattle handling skills to assure consumers about the safe, high-quality beef we produce on Iowa farms. Matt brings a strong knowledge of cattle as well as the ability to teach the subject matter."
Deppe, who joined the Iowa Beef Industry Council staff on March 2, said "I'm excited to have the opportunity to work for an industry that I've been connected to for my entire life and an industry that represents local stakeholders--Iowa cattle producers."
Producer-directed and consumer-focused, the Iowa Beef Industry Council is funded by the $1-per-head beef checkoff. Checkoff dollars are invested in beef promotion, consumer information, research, industry information and foreign market development, all with the purpose of strengthening beef demand.
