CKD Cowherd Program set for Feb. 1

The Central Kansas Extension District will be hosting its 22nd Annual Cowherd Program Feb. 1 at the VFW Post and Auxiliary 3201 Hall in Minneapolis. This year's program will focus on finding profitability in the cow/calf operation through resource management.

Starting at 5 p.m., Aaron Gasper, Kansas Farm Management Association ag economist, will discuss enterprise analysis and factors that impact net returns. Next will be Justin Waggoner, K-State Research & Extension's beef systems specialist in Garden City. Waggoner's presentation will focus on utilizing herd production records to benchmark your operation for the future.

The State Bank of Delphos, Bennington State Bank, and Bank of Tescott will help sponsor the dinner. Following the meal, Walt Fick, K-State Research & Extension rangeland specialist, will give an overview of how to develop a ranch management plan with emphasis on resource inventory and production practices. To wrap up, Central Kansas District Extension Livestock Agent Cade Rensink will outline strategies to match forage resources with the nutritional needs of beef cattle.

Cost to attend is $5 per person for those that pre-register and $10 at the door for those that do not. For more information or to RSVP by Jan. 28, please contact the CKD Extension Office in Minneapolis at 785-392-2147 or Salina at 785-309-5850.
