Bulls weighed after 84 days on test

The beef bulls on performance test at OPSU were weighed Jan. 1 after completing 84 days of the 112-day test. They will be weighed off test on Jan. 29. The bulls will be tested for several characteristics including a semen evaluation as well as scans for fat thickness, rib eye area and intramuscular fat. The top 70 bulls based on average daily gain and weight per day of age will sell in the 59th Annual OPSU Performance Tested Bull Sale Feb. 21.

In the junior age division, B&M Angus, Edmond, Okla., has the top gaining bull at 5.73 pounds ADG on a son of B&M Networth 828. R. J. Hollon, Woodward, Okla., has the second ranked junior with an ADG of 5.44 pounds on a son of Sydgen Mandate 6079. Wink Farms, Panhandle, Texas, has the third place junior with an ADG of 5.38 pounds on an Angus bull, a son of KCF Bennett Energizer.

In the junior pen division, B&M Angus leads the way with an ADG of 5.14 pounds. This pen is followed by R. J. Hollon's pen of three Angus with an ADG of 4.87 pounds. Larry Weinkauf's pen of three Angus, sired by Stucky Objective 7541, is in third place with an ADG of 4.74 pounds.

The senior age bulls are lead by an Al Rutledge Angus that has gained 5.64 pounds per day. The bull is sired by GAR Predestined. Another Al Rutledge Predestined-sired son is second with an ADG of 5.51 pounds. An OPSU Angus, sired by B&M Right Time 667, is third with an ADG of 5.43 pounds.

OPSU leads the senior pen division on a pen of three Angus with an ADG of 4.94 pounds, all sired by the Right Time sire. An Al Rutledge pen is second at 4.83 pounds and a B&M Angus pen is third at 4.77 pounds.

An OPSU Angus bull, sired by GAR OAF 1I2 Rito 7041G, is the top weight-per-day-of-age bull at 3.91 pounds.

The 59th Annual Performance Tested Bull Sale is set for Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. (CST) in the England Activity Building, University Farm, Goodwell, Okla.
