Nominations open for Pesticide Advisory Committee

Colorado

The Colorado Department of Agriculture's Pesticide Advisory Committee has one vacant seat. Nominations are now being taken to fill this important position.

"The 'general public' seat represents the broad interests of the public--not necessarily--their knowledge about pesticides," says John Scott, CDA's pesticides program manager. "The committee is staffed with members well-versed in pesticides so this vacant position is rather unique within the committee."

The primary responsibility of the committee is to discuss and help promulgate rules and regulations surrounding the Pesticide Act, Title 35 Article 9, and the Pesticide Applicators' Act, Title 35 Article 10, to best reflect public and private interests. The committee then makes recommendations to the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

The state advisory committee consists of 11 members who are confirmed by the Agricultural Commission. While terms are three years in length, the currently vacant seat expires in 2013. Meetings are quarterly.

"The members of the Pesticide Advisory Committee play an important role by providing the Department with feedback on pesticide related issues and how current and proposed regulations may affect all interested parties," said Scott.

The deadline to apply is March 11. Application forms and more information is available by visiting www.colorado.gov/ag/dpi or contact John Scott at 303-239-4179 or at John.Scott@ag.state.co.us.
