Kansas Commerce seeks nominations for Business Appreciation Awards
The Kansas Department of Commerce will celebrate 150 years of statehood and 150 years of doing business in Kansas through the annual Kansas Business Appreciation program. The department will again designate June as Kansas Business Appreciation Month and is accepting nominations for the annual Kansas Business Appreciation Awards. The awards serve as a statewide tribute to businesses for their contributions to Kansas and their local communities.
"These awards highlight the very best of business and industry in Kansas," said Secretary of Commerce Pat George. "In these difficult economic times, we want to recognize those businesses that are expanding operations, creating jobs and investing in their workers and communities."
Nominations may be submitted on behalf of any Kansas business that has positively impacted its community, its workforce or the Kansas economy. Nominations will come from seven regions around the state. A winner will be chosen from each region. From those winners, five finalists will be picked. Those finalists will be invited to the Kansas Cavalry Encampment event in June, where the governor is traditionally on hand to name one of them the winner of the Governor's Award of Excellence.
Award qualifications include: business expansion in Kansas; successful employee retention and recruitment practices; employee training/educational programs; capital investment in Kansas; support for community activities, including school activities, community events, economic development and leadership programs; nominations will be accepted in four categories; manufacturing/distribution; service; retail; hospital/non-profit.
The deadline to nominate a business is 5 p.m., April 1. Late nominations will not be accepted. To submit an online nomination, visit KansasCommerce.com/BAM. For more information, contact Krista Joy at 785-296-7911 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
