SD farm numbers up slightly

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP)--The federal government said it counted 300 more farms and ranches in South Dakota in 2010.

The Agricultural Statistics Service estimated the state had 31,800 that were operating on 43.7 million acres. Average size at 1,374 acres was down slightly.

The number of farms and ranches with sales of $1,000 to $99,999 declined, as did the number in the $250,000 and above range. The number with sales of $100,000 to $249,000 declined from the previous year.
