Cover Crops meeting is Feb. 24Kansas Kansas State University Research and Extension will hold a Cover Crops meeting Feb. 24 at the J. A. Haas Exhibit Building, 400 E. 18th Street, Larned, Kan. starting at 1 p.m. with registration and the program to start at 1:30 p.m. This meeting is for anyone interested in cover crops, what works and what does not. There is a lot of buzz about cover crops in the major ag publications lately, but will cover crops work in this part of country? Come to learn the latest information from a K-State Extension specialist and a seed company representative, as they give you answers to your questions. A crop and soils specialist will also be on hand to cover any other production questions you may have. Landowners, farmers and anyone interested in finding ways to farm better should find this meeting educational. It is open to the public. There is no cost to attend this meeting. However, please call the Pawnee County Extension office at 620-285-6901 or e-mail Rodney Wallace at rwallace@ksu.edu by Feb. 23 to register so that we can plan to have the appropriate hand-out materials available. Speakers for this event include: Tom Clayman, Kaufman Seeds, Inc. Hutchinson, who will be speaking on "Why Cover Crops, What to Use"; John Holman, cropping systems agronomist, K-State Southwest Research nad Extension Center, Garden City, who will be speaking on "Fallow Replacement in Western Kansas"; and Kent Martin, Southwest Area crops and soils specialist, Southwest Research and Extension Center, Garden City, who will address "Other Crop Production Questions" the group may have. This meeting is scheduled to conclude around 4 p.m. This educational opportunity is sponsored by the Pawnee, Edwards, Gray, Hodgeman and Ford County Extension Councils.
