Spring Forage Conference set for Feb. 22 in Springfield
The 27th annual Southwest Missouri Spring Forage Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield.
This year's keynote speaker will be Jim Lents, a purebred Hereford cattle breeder from southwest Oklahoma. His seed stock operation caters primarily to commercial cattlemen, and in recent years has become a destination for producers intently focused on forage-based livestock and beef. Lents is considered a leading authority on the principles of linebreeding and their application.
The conference will also feature breakout sessions on topics like forage diversity, grass based genetics, soil health and microbe management, holistic grazing management, harvesting quality hay, poultry litter versus commercial fertilizer, managing existing forages, various grazing philosophies, goats, strip grazing, and weed and brush control through management.
A banquet luncheon is included with the advanced registration cost of $25 (or $35 at the door).
For more information, contact the Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District at 417-831-5246, ext. 3. Conference information and a registration form are also available on the Internet at http://agebb.missouri.edu/sfc.
