Private pesticide applicator trainings scheduled

Missouri

University of Missouri Extension is conducting private pesticide applicator training sessions throughout southwest Missouri at various times, dates and locations.

These three hour training programs will allow individuals to recertify or receive initial training to be licensed to purchase or use restricted-use pesticides for five years.

Missouri law requires all purchasers and users of restricted-use pesticides to attend a training session to be certified for a private applicators license.

Participants will be required to purchase the Private Pesticide Applicator Reference Manual if the do not already own a copy and bring it with them to the training. The manual's cost is $12 and must be purchased at the time of training.

The following is a list of private pesticide applicator trainings that are coming up in southwest Missouri:

In Jasper County, the training will take place at 1 p.m., Feb. 24 in the basement of the Jasper County Courthouse at 302 S. Main, Carthage. For more information, call 417-448-2560 but pre-registration is not required.

In Barton County, the training will take place at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 24 at the Barton County Extension Center, 801 E. 12th in Lamar. To register for the class, call 417-448-2560 one week before the training.

Two trainings are planned in Barry County, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on March 1 at the Barry County Courthouse inside the Commissioners Room. To register for this training call 417-847-3161.

In Lawrence County, the training will begin at 1 p.m., March 3 at the MU Southwest Research Center on Hwy. H, south of Mt. Vernon. Call the Lawrence County Extension office at 417- 466-3102 for information or to register.

In Stone County, the training will take place at 1 p.m., March 16 at the Stone County Library in Galena. Advance registration is needed and can be made by calling 417-357-6812.

The training in Taney County begins at 1 p.m. on March 28 at the Taneyville Municipal Building. For details, or to register, call 417-546-4431.

The three-hour training provides certification to obtain a Private Pesticide Applicators License for agricultural producers and will also count for recertification requirements. The training will not certify for commercial application licenses and is open to anyone age 18 or older.
