NALF hosts Limousin sale at NWSS

The National Limousin Sale was Jan. 8 in the Beef Palace Auction Arena at the National Western Complex in Denver, Colo. The 17.5 live lots averaged $7,800.

Class averages were as follows: 3.5 bulls, $10,143; one bred female, $7,750; four open Limousin females, $6,488; eight open Lim-Flex females, $4,663; and 58 embryos, $474.

The top seller was the lot one bull, who was syndicated and sold semen packages to $30,000, CALO Brickyard 902W, a Sept. 11, 2009, 50 percent Lim-Flex son of Schilling's Talladega out of EXG E839 1407 M175 LS. Abele Cattle Co., El Dorado Springs, Mo.; JCL Land and Cattle, Welch, Okla.; Milam Cattle Co., Olmstead, Ky.; Jepson Limousin, Franklin, Ky.; Graven Land & Cattle, Lebanon, Mo; Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., own the eventual NWSS grand champion Lim-Flex bull for 2011.

Rounding out the top five sellers were the following.

--TW Fire N Ice 105X (a April 20, 2010, Lim-Flex son of BOHI Titlelist 7050T out of MAGS Upper Saunter), consigned by Twin Willow Farms, Springfield, Mo., to Magness Land and Cattle, Milam Cattle Co., JCL Land and Cattle, and Edwards Land and Cattle Co., Bealaville, N.C. for $20,000.

--TASF Xtravagent 495X ( a May 25, 2010, Limousin daughter of LESF Asphalt 9N out of COLE 29M), consigned by Thomas and Son Farms, Boonsboro, Md. She was crowned People's Choice champion purebred Limousin female and later sold to Biser Limousin, Keymar, Md., for $12,000.

--LFL X-Travagant 0021X (a May 3, 2010, Lim-Flex daughter of DHVO Trey 133R out of LFL 7066T), consigned by Lawrence Family Limousin, Anton, Texas, to Abbey Burnet, Hale Center, Texas, for $10,000.

--TMCK Queen 45W (a May 5, 2009, Lim-Flex daughter of EXLR Right of Way 177R out of TMCK Queen 73T and People's Choice champion Lim-Flex female), consigned by Megan Greenawalt, Lynchburg, Ohio, to Hager Cattle Co., Karlsruhe, N.D., for $7,750.

The top embryo lot was from a mating of AHCC Miss Wulf Hunt R544 to KAJO Responder 120R. Consigned by Hager Cattle Co., the five embryos sold to Tubmill Creek Farms, New Florence, Pa., for $775 each.

The North American Limousin Foundation hosted the National Limousin Sale. American Cattle Services, Chattanooga, Okla.; R&R Marketing Co., Nashville, Tenn.; and KK Seedstock Consultants, Richmond, Va., managed it. Grassroots Genetics and Consulting, Ankeny, Iowa, served as sales consultant. C.K. "Sonny" Booth, Miami, Okla., was the auctioneer.
