Celebrate Beef Month in May

Help celebrate Beef Month in May in the company of America's favorite outdoor appliance--the grill. But, before taking that first bite of steak or hamburger, raise your tongs to Iowa's beef producers for providing such a great tasting product for you and your family.

Cattle are produced in all 50 states by some 800,000 cattlemen, caring for about 97 million cattle, according to Cattle-Fax, a company that tracks industry statistics. While the U.S. has less than 10 percent of the world's cattle inventory, it produces nearly 25 percent of the world's beef supply.

The economic impact of the cattle industry contributes to nearly every county in the nation, especially in rural communities. In this state, there are over 30,000 beef producers in all 99 counties providing safe, wholesome, nutritious beef.

Beef is the No. 1 protein in America, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It seems that America's love of grilling is a major contribution to that preference. According to the 18th Annual Weber GrillWatch survey, Americans said their all-time favorite food to grill is steak.

Although many people grill year-round, spring seems to kick off the grilling season. According to the 18th Annual Weber GrillWatch survey, the top five grilling holidays are the Fourth of July, Labor Day, birthdays, Memorial Day and Father's Day.

For great ideas on preparing beef for the holidays or any other occasion when you want to fire up the grill and prepare a delicious-tasting hamburger or thick sizzling steak, go to www.iabeef.org.
