Morrissette co-authors Benge Energy BillOklahoma Rep. Richard Morrissette (D-OKC) has co-authored HB3028, the Oklahoma Energy Security Act, by Speaker of the House, Chris Benge (R-Tulsa) saying "I am encouraged to see Oklahoma take a leadership role in alternative energy resource development." "HB3028 will go a long way toward the goal of putting Oklahoma at the forefront of this new frontier," said Morrissette. "The similarities with my HB2686, in terms of biomass utilization, make it so that the Speaker and I find ourselves on the same page. My research into the possibilities for use of biofuel pellets from torrified cedar and oil from gasification make my support a natural." "My Eastern Red Cedar Initiative will set biofuel standards for Oklahoma specific to the use of what is now a pest tree species that costs the state $202 million annually to control: the Eastern Red Cedar, juniperus virginiana. " The Eastern Red Cedar initiative is the marketing vehicle for the 2002 Cedar Task Force, whose goals have stalled by the lack of tax incentives to bring industry and market development. HB2686 has passed unanimously from the Agriculture and Rural Development committee and now awaits scheduling upon the House of Representatives Floor calendar. Questions about the Eastern Red Cedar Initiative should be directed to Morrissette's Capitol office at 405-557-7404.
