UNL hires new Department of Agricultural Economics head

Nebraska

A University of Idaho professor and department head has been hired as head of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Agricultural Economics.

Larry W. Van Tassell will assume his new job by mid-August.

Van Tassell has been professor and head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at the University of Idaho since 1999. He also has worked at the University of Wyoming, the University of Tennessee and Texas A & M and Brigham Young universities.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Brigham Young and his doctorate from Texas A&M. He is a member of the National Association of Agricultural Economics Administrators, the Society for Range Management and other organizations.

Van Tassell has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels--15 different classes, including six that he developed. At the University of Idaho, he led development of a new undergraduate curriculum--the first significant revision in 30 years--and revision of the graduate curriculum.
