AgriLife Bookstore has good reads for Dad

Texas

"Gee, thanks. What is it?"

If this has been Dad's response after opening a Father's Day gift, the Texas AgriLife Extension Bookstore staff has some suggestions for items he might really enjoy getting.

The bookstore website, http://agrilifebookstore.org, has many publications for the father who is a farmer, rancher, fisherman, naturalist, gardener, birder or has other outdoor interests, said Judy Winn, educational publications manager for AgriLife Communications, Texas A&M System.

"Publications cover a wide variety of topics that fathers from all walks of life will find interesting and useful," Winn said.

Publications available through the site include books, booklets, guides, CDs and other materials written by specialists with AgriLife Extension.

Most publications have electronic versions that can be downloaded and printed at no cost, or publications can be ordered, she said. Several AgriLife Bookstore publications also are available in Spanish.

Winn said by clicking on the site's "Browse the Shelves" link, users can see all the topics covered and browse to find just the right gift for Dad.

Some of the bookstore publications Winn and her staff suggest the farmer, rancher or landowner include:

--Reference Guide for Texas Ranchers (B-6101): Practical information on livestock husbandry, grazing management, weed and brush control, rangeland seeding, herbicide application and more; $5.

--Grazing Land Stewardship (B-6221): Livestock nutrition, forage quality, water and fences, land inventories, grazing strategies, record keeping, and managing livestock and wildlife habitat; $15.

--Wildlife and Fish Management Calendar (B-6197): Beautiful calendar for year-round management of wildlife and fish resources, including deer, doves, water fowl, feral hogs, bass, catfish and more; $7.95.

--Brush and Weeds of Texas Rangelands (B-6208): Comprehensive guide to keeping grazing land healthy and productive. Includes maps and photos; $25.

--Toxic Plants of Texas (B-6105): Identification guide for the most common toxic plants in Texas; includes symptoms in animals; $25.

Winn added that free gardening and lawn maintenance publications are available from the site, including the Texas Home Vegetable Gardening Guide (E-502); Maintaining Bermudagrass Lawns (E-242); Lawn Fertilization for Texas Warm-Season Grasses (E-437); and Fertilizing Texas Lawns: 10-Point Checklist for Warm-Season Grasses (E-436). She said the free "Easy Gardening" publication series (E-503 through E-518) for growing vegetables from asparagus to zucchini is also available.

All publications can be ordered from http://agrilifebookstore.org, and payment can be made by credit card, check or money order, Winn said. Most orders arrive within five days.
