Winter weather in full force during December

Wyoming

During the month of December, the state of Wyoming saw some precipitation, heavy winds, and low temperatures, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Wyoming Field Office, Jan. 4.

Some moisture was received in localized areas last week in Wyoming. Some areas experienced high winds and low temperatures. High temperatures ranged from high 30s to high 50s. Low temperatures ranged from 34 degrees below to 9 degrees below zero.

Topsoil moisture was at 84 percent adequate or better, up 23 points from last year and up 30 points from the average. Subsoil moisture was 71 percent adequate or better, 15 points above last year and 37 points above the 5-year average. The average depth of snow cover was 2.3 inches.

Winter wheat condition was reported at 92 percent good or better. Winter wheat wind damage was reported at 33 percent light and 10 percent moderate with no wind damage reported to 57 percent. Freeze damage to winter wheat was reported at 35 percent light and 3 percent moderate with no freeze damage to 62 percent.

Cattle conditions were reported at 78 percent good or better and sheep conditions were reported at 83 percent good or better.
