Southeast Colorado Resource Conservation and Development Council honored outgoing Chairman Jim Valliant at their recent Annual Meeting/Holiday Banquet Dec. 3, 2009. Chez W Duvall's restaurant in Granada was buzzing as 45 boisterous attendees enjoyed the evening.
Newly elected RC&D Council Chairperson Laura Negley reported on RC&D's 30 current community development and small business start-up projects throughout southeast Colorado. Featured guest speaker Hal Holder from Big Squeeze LLC regaled the crowd with his fascinating venture into creating a biodiesel plant in Rocky Ford. This new company, the brainchild of local farmers/businessmen Hal Holder, Joel Lundquist and Rick Young, has the potential to provide enough biodiesel to meet the needs of many ag producers, and a byproduct supply of high quality protein meal to meet the needs of a mid-size cattle feeding operation. Hal detailed some of the challenges the facility is navigating.
Three generous local businesses sponsored the event: Skyland Grain LLC serving Johnson, Walsh, Syracuse, Elkhart, Big Bow and Manter; Valley Distributing Company-your Justice Brother's Distributor; and Tinnes Air Care Services Inc.
