Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, western North and South Dakota feedlots for the week ending Jan. 30 totaled 4,550 head, compared to 8,700 head last week and 1,550 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, steer calves under 700 pounds sold steady, heifer calves under 700 pounds sold steady to $2 higher, steers and heifers over 700 pounds sold steady on few comparable sales. Demand was good. Overall quality was good. Direct trade is slow. Steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher. Demand was light to moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent, and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 59% of the total receipts, heifers 41%, with 74% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1950 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2 360 lbs., 128.00; 485 lbs., 118.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 109.00 to 112.00; 645 lbs., 98.50. Holsteins, Large frame 2 to 3, 800 lbs., 50.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 495 lbs., 113.50. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 800 to 860 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00; 825 lbs., 96.00 February; 925 lbs., 90.50. Delivered price, none.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 450 lbs., 114.50 to 118.00; 450 to 485 lbs., 113.00 to 116.50; 500 to 550 lbs., 100.00 to 112.00; 570 to 600 lbs., 97.00 to 109.00; 600 to 630 lbs., 97.50 to 105.75; 650 to 700 lbs., 94.00 to 97.75; 725 to 775 lbs., 90.00 to 96.00; 830 to 850 lbs., 89.00 to 91.00; 910 to 980 lbs., 83.25 to 88.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 630 lbs., 91.00 to 91.50; 735 to 790 lbs., 86.00 to 90.25. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 730 to 775 lbs., 91.50 to 94.00. Delivered price, none.
