Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts 3,831 head Jan. 28, compared to 3,450 head last week and 1,614 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, feeder steers 400 to 700 pounds was steady to $2 higher, 700 to 900 pounds was steady to $2 lower, most of the weakness on fleshy cattle. Heifers 400 to 650 pounds was steady to soft, 650 to 850 pounds was steady. Slaughter cows was steady to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 higher in a light test. Trade and demand was good. Receipts included 84% 600 pounds and over, 13% 600 pounds and under, and 3% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of 53% steers and 47% heifer.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 53.50 to 56.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 59.00; low dressing, 46.25 to 52.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 49.50 to 56.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 58.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 48.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 63.50 to 64.50; high dressing, 66.50; low dressing. 56.50 to 60.00.
