CAWG meets with Colorado congressional delegation

Colorado

Officers of the Colorado Association of Wheat Growers met with members and staff of the state's congressional delegation while attending the National Association of Wheat Growers meeting in Washington, D.C., Jan. 23 to 27, to discuss issues important to Colorado wheat producers.

CAWG President Jerry Cooksey of Roggen said he feels CAWG lobbying efforts were well received.

"We discussed continued wheat research both at Colorado State University and the Central Great Plains Research Station, trade issues primarily with Cuba and Colombia, crop insurance issues, rail issues and the Conservation Reserve Program. We also shared our views on cap and trade," Cooksey said.

"Last year our efforts were particularly successful for CRP in Colorado. Without the political pressure from the Colorado congressional delegation, there may not have been any CRP acres offered an extension in Colorado," Cooksey said. The delegation understands the importance of these issues and will continue to speak out for wheat issues and the CRP."

CAWG is a voluntary membership association that lobbies on behalf of wheat growers at the state and national levels of government and provides special programs and benefits to dues paying members.
