Organic Farming Conference features 16 OSU presenters

Ohio

The 31st annual conference of the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association will include 16 presentations by Ohio State University researchers, specialists and educators, the most ever for the event.

Billed as Ohio's largest sustainable food and farm conference, the program takes place Feb. 13 and 14 at the Granville middle and high schools in central Ohio.

In all, some 60-plus sessions will follow a theme of "Growing with Integrity, Eating with Intention."

The Ohio State speakers come from Ohio State University Extension, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, and OARDC's Organic Food and Farming Education and Research program.

"This year's conference continues the long partnership we've enjoyed with the OFFER program and with other OSU researchers committed to organic and sustainable agriculture," said Carol Goland, OEFFA executive director. "These researchers and OEFFA farmers together represent some of the most forward-thinking and innovative examples of academic and practical knowledge."

For more information about the conference and to see a schedule and workshop descriptions, go to www.oeffa.org/conf-workshops.php. Organizers say registration is limited and filling up quickly, so anyone interested in attending should sign up soon at www.oeffa.org/conf-register.php.

OARDC and OSU Extension are the research and outreach arms, respectively, of Ohio State's College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

OARDC established OFFER in 1998 in response to requests from organic producers and supporters to provide science-based information to Ohio's existing organic farmers and to newcomers to organic production and marketing.

Started in 1979, OEFFA is a membership-based, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting and supporting sustainable, ecological and healthful food systems.
