Rancher says someone is shooting his cattle

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP)--A Valencia County rancher is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can help him determine who is killing his cattle and leaving their bodies to rot on the side of a road.

A neighbor found four dead calves Jan. 17 on ranch land west of Belen. Deputies say they were shot point-blank with a shotgun. Someone shot and killed two cows on the same ranch earlier last week.

Investigators say the shooter may have been driving a white van with a bad muffler. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the New Mexico Livestock Board.
