Black farmers to rally in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)--The National Black Farmers Association is taking its national campaign to collect a massive discrimination settlement to Virginia.

Founder and Virginia resident John W. Boyd Jr. will rally his supporters Feb. 13 in Richmond as they attempt to pressure Congress to approve the settlement, which totals $1.15 billion.

The settlement would pay claims filed by black farmers who say the U.S. Department of Agriculture discriminated against them. It was included in the budget President Barack Obama sent to Congress.

The money would pay claims filed by farmers who say they were denied USDA assistance such as loans or crop subsidies.

The association will rally Feb. 15 in Washington.
