Missouri WRAPS to sponsor livestock management, profitability workshops in HighlandKansas The Missouri River Basin Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy will host a one day workshop on livestock management and profitability at 10 a.m., Jan. 20 at the Highland Community Center, 501 West Avenue in Highland. The workshop will conclude at approximately 2:30 p.m. According to Carl Johnson, Missouri River Basin WRAPS coordinator, area farmers and ranchers are invited to attend this no-cost workshop to learn about ways to reduce costs on his or her farm all while improving water quality. "The goal is to provide information to livestock producers for profitable livestock management and to present low-cost or no-cost management techniques that will reduce environmental impacts," he said. Topics included in the workshop include reducing production in-put costs; livestock management to reduce impacts; alternative watering systems, as well as funding sources available to implement best management practices. Speakers include Carl Johnson, Missouri River Basin WRAPS; Don Jones, State Conservation Commission; Mechelle Foos, Natural Resources Conservation Service; Larry Hollis, Kansas State University; Will Boyer, K-State Research and Extension, and Ed Reznicek, Kansas Rural Center. Sponsors of the workshop include Missouri River Basin WRAPS; John Haupt, Troy Insurance Services, Inc.; Troy State Bank; Bruna Implement; Brown, Doniphan, Leavenworth, and Nemaha, and Wyandotte County Conservation Districts; State Conservation Commission; K-State Research and Extension, and Kansas State University.
