Zach Peterson honored with Bronze and Silver Awards

Iowa

Zach Peterson, Afton, Iowa, has been awarded the National Junior Angus Association's Bronze and Silver awards, according to Robin Ruff, American Angus Association director of junior activities.

The 18-year-old son of Sheila and Herman Chenoweth is a senior at East Union Community High School. He is a member of the Iowa Junior Angus Association, serving as a director for three years.

Peterson is active in the showring on state and national levels. He has participated in the National Junior Angus Show, as well as associated quiz bowl, photography, posters, livestock judging and the All-American Certified Angus Beef Cook-Off contests.

He has participated in state showmanship competitions and has consigned cattle to state Angus sales.

The Bronze and Silver awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards, then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for the nearly 6,500 active members nationwide.
