Conference will help farmers use no-till successfully

 

Nebraska

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension will provide corn and soybean producers information on how to be successful with no-till farming practices at the Nebraska No-Till Conference, which will be held in two locations.

The conference is from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Feb. 16 at the Ag Center in Holdrege and Feb. 17 at UNL's Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

Conference organizers, UNL Extension educators Keith Glewen and Chuck Burr and Paul Jasa, UNL extension engineer, said producers will learn the benefits of no-till and how it can work for them.

Speakers include no-till farmers, university specialists and industry representatives.

The Holdrege conference includes the following topics: Implications of Surface Applied Fertilizer in No-Till Conditions; Climate Variability--Is It for Real; Carbon Sequestration Research Update; Research Report--One Tillage Pass in No-till--Its Impact; Lunch Panel Discussion--Why My Neighbor Doesn't No-Till; Use and Benefits of Cover Crops in a Crop Rotation; Impact of Long-Term No-Till on Infiltration and Runoff with Center Pivots and Evapotranspiration; and Soil Temperature and Plant Physiological Parameters in Relation to Tillage Practices.

The ARDC conference topics include: Evaluating No-till Production Year 2009; Climate Variability--Is It for Real; Carbon Sequestration Research Update; Research Report--One Tillage Pass in No-till--Its Impact; a Farm Operator's Experiences with No-till Corn and Soybean Production, Cover Crops, Equipment, Economics and Related Concepts; Implications of Surface Applied Fertilizer in No-Till; Managing Micro-Nutrients in No-Till Cover Crops and The Facts About Nutrient Recycling; Cover Crop Experiences on the Farm; and No-Till Nutrient Management.
