Most topsoil moisture rated adequateNew Mexico There were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Aug. 22, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, New Mexico Field Office, Aug. 23. Topsoil moisture was 2 percent very short, 15 percent short and 83 percent adequate. Wind damage was 7 percent light and 1 percent moderate with 7 percent cotton damaged by wind to date and 5 percent sorghum damaged by wind to date. No hail damage was reported this week with 3 percent cotton damaged by hail to date, 2 percent corn damaged by hail to date, 2 percent sorghum damaged by hail to date, and 2 percent peanut damaged by hail to date. Alfalfa conditions were mostly good with 100 percent of the third cutting complete and 70 percent of the fourth cutting complete and 23 percent of the fifth cutting complete. Corn conditions ranged from good to excellent with 100 percent silked and 43 percent dough and 31 percent dent and 5 percent mature. Cotton conditions were mostly fair to good with 100 percent squaring and 61 percent setting bolls and 13 percent bolls opening. Irrigated sorghum conditions were mostly good with 73 percent headed and 11 percent coloring. Dry sorghum conditions ranged from fair to good with 50 percent headed and 9 percent coloring. Apple conditions were mostly good. Chile conditions ranged from fair to excellent with 35 percent harvested. Lettuce was 30 percent planted. Onions were 98 percent harvested. Peanut conditions were mostly good with 80 percent pegging. Pecan conditions were mostly good to excellent. Cattle conditions ranged from fair to excellent. Sheep conditions were mostly fair to good. Range and pasture conditions ranged from fair to excellent.
