Kansan named to Ag Agents' Hall of FameKansas Mike Christian, who retired from full-time employment after more than 33 years with the Kansas Cooperative Extension Service, has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. Christian was honored during NACAA's annual meeting in Tulsa, Okla., on July 13. He is a past president of the Kansas Association of County Agricultural Agents and has been active at the national meeting for 23 years. "It's a little overwhelming for me to receive that award; it's humbling," Christian said. "But certainly, I'm quite appreciative." Christian's 33-year career includes three years as a 4-H agent in Dickinson County, 21 years as the agricultural agent in Riley County, and nine years as a state watershed specialist for K-State Research and Extension. "In the last nine years, with the water quality work and getting to work with livestock producers one on one to meet water quality standards and that's been one of the most rewarding times of my career because I've been able to follow the project all the way through," Christian said. Since 2006, Christian has helped develop management plans for 155 animal feeding operations in Kansas. Currently, he works two days a week for K-State, still as a state watershed specialist. "I hope the work we've done over these years makes a difference in people's lives," Christian said. "That's why we're in Extension, to help people. I hope the contributions I've made have made that difference for them." Christian and his wife, Cheryl, live in Manhattan.
