Southern Oklahoma Farm & Lifestyle Show

Pontotoc County is recognized as the center of agriculture and culture in southern Oklahoma. Ada is the county seat and home of Eastern Central University, country singer Blake Shelton, historic McSwain Theatre, and headquarters of the Chickasaw Nation.

But the biggest draw to Ada is the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex & Convention Center. General Manager Victor Bolen says, "Hardly a weekend goes by that we aren't playing host to a team-roping championship, cutting horse futurity, a tractor pull, motorcycle event, rodeo or a concert. We are the site of the biannual National Mule Sale--which draws people from across the country--the World Championship Rodeo Bullfights, and the Cord McCoy PBR Invitational."

This year there is something new. From April 30 through May 2, the Agri-Plex will host their first Southern Oklahoma Farm & Lifestyle Show. Their multi-use indoor arena and the 12,000-square-foot Convention Center will ensure this inaugural event will be a success, rain or shine. A forecast for sunny weather will be a nice way to enjoy the outdoor arena and facilities, which will be full of vendors and exhibitors such as John Deere, Kubota, Great Plains Equipment, Tractor Supply Company, and many other farm, ranch, and lifestyle products including RVs.

Throughout the weekend, educational seminars will be presented by Natural Resources Conservation Service and Oklahoma State University Extension. Some areas that may be covered include Pontotoc Ridge Prescribed Burn Association, how to get rid of those pesky fire ants, and how to have successful vegetable and flower gardens.

Well-known horse trainer Scott Daily will showcase his strategies to the crowds twice a day over the weekend. According to Scott, who is a popular draw at fairs and horse shows across the Midwest, "With adjustments, nurturing and well-tempered training, you will truly enjoy your horse and trust his companionship."

Don't miss the Saturday afternoon concert featuring Corybel Country. Billed as having a "new, fresh, pure country sound originating from the heart of the Ozarks in rural southwest Missouri," this unique blend of family harmony and edgy country musicianship brings to life the lyrics and music of their songs. Lead vocalist Corybel is a "charismatic country girl who writes, sings and plays flat top guitar in the group."

The Southern Oklahoma Farm & Lifestyle Show April 30 through May 2 looks to be a surefire hit. Whether you are an attendee or a future producer, you will find the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex & Convention Center to be one of the finest facilities in rural Midwest America.
